Who taught you that exhaustion was the price of a good life?
I'm Tamu Thomas. Flourishing School is where we question stories we've inherited about success, ambition and work and build lives that feel like they belong to us.
Flourishing is relational
What kind of relationship do you have with work?
It’s one of the most intimate relationships we’ll ever have. On average, we spend 90,000 hours in it. Ninety thousand.
Whether it fuels us or drains us depends on how we were conditioned to relate to work, how organisations are designed to function and how we’re taught to be in relationship with our businesses.
That’s why I work on all three.
With organisations who want their people to flourish at work. With women who want to flourish in their lives. With experts, founders and academics who want to flourish in business.
Where do you want to flourish?

Hello, I’m Tamu
I’m Tamu Thomas: author, keynote speaker, researcher and human flourishing expert.
For nearly sixteen years I was a children and family social worker. I was excellent and I was exhausted. I wasn’t just functioning, I was over-functioning in a body I’d learnt to override with resilience and frankly, brute force. Life sold me the strong Black woman archetype and I paid with my energy.
One beautiful late summer morning, on my way to court, my body said no more. I had a panic attack at a bus stop in a slick suit and freshly polished shoes.
As I reassessed my life, I realised everyone around me was exhausted too. Exhaustion was normalised, feeling refreshed was a luxury and complaining about work was par for the course. I wanted something different.
That morning changed my relationship with work for good. Burnout became my breakthrough (I know how cheesy that sounds). I had to rebuild my relationship with work and then that became my work.
I research, write and speak about what it takes for people to flourish and I bring plenty of joy with me. It’s one of the best nervous system regulators.
"Taking important issues and adding fun without trivialising is a hugeskill and Tamu does this with natural ease"

What if work supported our lives, rather than consuming them?
Women Who Work Too Much traces toxic productivity back to its roots: in childhood, in culture, in the nervous system. Then it shows you how to live differently. Part memoir, part science, part invitation to choose yourself.
"We are going through a mass awakening when it comes to the way we work and why - and this is the practical guidebook we all need." — EMMA GANNON (journalist, broadcaster & The Sunday Times best-selling author)
"Women Who Work Too Much is a defiant act of sisterhood that reminds women that we can undo that which functions to undo us." — KELECHI OKAFOR (actor, director & bestselling author)
